Towards the Anchovy Biorefinery: Biogas Production from Anchovy Processing Waste after Fish Oil Extraction with Biobased Limonene

نویسندگان

چکیده

Anchovies are among the largest fish catch worldwide. The anchovy fillet industry generates a huge amount of biowaste (e.g., heads, bones, tails) that can be used for extraction several potentially valuable bioproducts including omega-3 lipids. Following valued oil rich in omega-3, vitamin D3 and zeaxanthin from leftovers using biobased limonene fully circular process, solid residue (anchovy sludge) was as starting substrate production biogas by anaerobic digestion. In spite unbalanced carbon to nitrogen (C/N) ratio, typical marine biowaste, sludge showed good methane yield (about 280 mLCH4·gVS−1), proving an ideal co-digestion along with other wastes residues. Furthermore, presence residual limonene, renewable, not-toxic edible solvent, does not affect microbial methanogenesis. results reported this study demonstrate after process efficiently co-substrate modern biorefinery.

Effect of Clupeonella grimmi (anchovy/kilka) fish oil on dysmenorrhoea.

To examine whether dietary supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids from Clupeonella grimmi can relieve symptoms of dysmenorrhoea, we carried out a cross-over clinical trial on 36 girls aged 18-22 years. They were randomly allocated into 2 groups of 18. Group A received 15 mL fish oil daily (550 mg eicosapentaenoic acid; 205 mg decosahexaenoic acid) while Group B received placebo. After 3 month...

Improvement of Biogas Production from Orange Peel Waste by Leaching of Limonene

Limonene is present in orange peel wastes and is known as an antimicrobial agent, which impedes biogas production when digesting the peels. In this work, pretreatment of the peels to remove limonene under mild condition was proposed by leaching of limonene using hexane as solvent. The pretreatments were carried out with homogenized or chopped orange peel at 20-40°C with orange peel waste and he...

Production of Biogas from Poultry Waste

It is inevitable that with large volume and high density poultry productions, there will be large quantities of poultry waste produced in Kathmandu and throughout Nepal. Poultry waste produced as the daily feeding of chicken both from broilers and layers in the country is largely used as organic manure for agricultural purposes. The poultry industry is growing day by day concentrated within the...

Characterization of Leuconostoc strains isolated from fresh anchovy (Engraulis anchoita).

The biomass value of anchovy (Engraulis anchoita), the most abundant fi sh species in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean, is considered to be around 4,300,000 tons, with a maximum sustainable yield of 1,140,000 tons (Cabrer et al., 2002), being at present under exploited at 27,800 tons/year (SAGPyA, 2008). Recently, as part of the FAO’s project Towards a Sustainable Aquaculture: Selected Issues and G...

On the occurrence of a double parasitism (copepod and isopod) on the anchovy fish in India.

A double parasitism (isopod and copepod) on anchovy fish, Stolephorus commersonii Lacepede, 1803 was recorded from Parangipettai (India) coastal waters during June, 2004. This is the first report from this region and the infestation is discussed in relation to environmental parameters in this short communication.
